2000 Green Day’s “Warning” is out.

Going to #4 on the Billboard 200, it is the group’s sixth studio album but first major label release not to initially go multi-platinum – but it eventually sells over a million copies.


2018 Asking Alexandria garner third Top 10 hit on Active Rock Radio.

“Alone In A Room” moves to #9. The track is the second single from the band’s eponymous fifth studio album.  The song generates more than 1 3.3 million streams on Spotify, 28 million global streams, and 4.9 million YouTube views.

1938 Eddie (“Summertime Blues”) Cochran is born into a musical family.

1945 At age ten Elvis Presley makes his first public appearance. He sings “Old Shep” at the Mississippi-Alabama Dairy Show. He wins 2nd place and receives $5.

1947 Fleetwood Mac guitarist/singer, Lindsey Buckingham, begins his life.

1954 Texas guitar ace Stevie Ray Vaughn is born.

1962 Tommy Lee (Mötley Crüe) has a birthday.  The drummer is born in Athens, Greece, his father is in the Army, the family moved to California a short time later. 

1966 Guitarist, songwriter and co-founder of Tesla, Frank Hannon, is born. 

1969 The Hollaback Girl. No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani is born in Fullerton, CA, but grows up in Anaheim. Aside from singing, she’s an accomplished songwriter, fashion designer, and occasional actress.

1970 Creedence Clearwater Revival stalled at #2 (the highest pop chart position CCR ever attained) when the Country influenced “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” peaks.

1972 Lajon Witherspoon, the vocalist for Sevendust, lets out his first wail. He’s a native of Nashville, TN.  

1976 Guitarist Herman Li (Dragonforce) enters the world. 

1978 Aerosmith’s concert in Fort Wayne, IN, is disrupted by a police raid. Officers arrest scores of audience members (estimated between 30 and 50) for smoking marijuana. The band bails their fans out of jail after their set.

1979 Drummer Nate Wood (The Calling) starts his life.

1981 Journey’s breakthrough ballad “Who’s Crying Now” goes to #4 on the Billboard 100.

1987 Heart’s “Who Will You Run To” gets to #7 on the U.S., pop chart. 

1998 “Mechanical Animals.” the third studio album by Marilyn Manson, is #1 on the Billboard 200

2000 The Cars bassist, Benjamin Orr, succumbs to pancreatic cancer at age 53.

2006 The Who’s Pete Townshend is honored at BMI’s London Awards. The performing rights organization recognizes Europe’s leading songwriters and composers. Townshend receives TV Music Awards for penning tunes used on the three CSI TV series.

2006 Ex-Police guitarist Andy Summers’ autobiography “One Train Later” is published. “I’ve had a fairly amazing life and I’ve been very lucky,” says Summers. “I’ve been in on all the amazing moments.”

2009 The Fifth Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute takes place at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where the Ramones’ guitarist is buried. Over 3,000 fans in attendance raise funds for the cancer research fund at the University of Southern California Westside Prostate Cancer Center.

2011 Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen and the band’s manager Dave Frey appear in Washington D.C. to urge Congress to seek legislation regarding temporary stages. The band narrowly escaped a stage collapse in Canada at the Ottawa Bluesfest the previous July.

2016 Disturbed’s David Draiman defends streaming services arguing that the real culprits are fans who think it’s okay to illegally download music. Draiman states piracy is the root of the entire problem. 

2021 Devildriver parted ways with Neal Tiemann their guitarist for six years. “Neal filled in a time when we needed him most, we thank him for his touring & songwriting efforts,” writes frontman Dez Fafara in a statement. 

2022 Stephen Harrison and Aric Improta simultaneously release statements saying they have left Fever 333.  Vocalist Jason Aalon Butler is now the lone remaining member.
