The Beatles release “The White Album” in the U.S. 1968

Working more as four solo performers than as a band there’s “Back In The U.S.S.R.” (Paul McCartney), “Dear Prudence” and “Revolution” (John Lennon), “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” (George Harrison) and “Don’t Pass Me By” (Ringo Starr).

1994 Pearl Jam unfurl their third studio album “Vitalogy.”

The set eventually sells over 5 million copies.

2004 U2 shows “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.”

Lead singer Bono describes their eleventh studio effort, as “our first Rock album.” The set contains the track “Vertigo.”

2005 System Of A Down’s “Hypnotize” is released.

The second half of a ‘double album’ (“Mesmerize” was released the previous May) debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 and becomes a platinum seller.

1950 The name of the bassist is Tina Weymouth. A Talking Heads founding member is born Martina Michèle Weymouth in Coronado, CA.

1950 E Street Band guitarist and Bruce Springsteen foil, Steven Van Zant (a.k.a. Little Steven Van Zandt, Little Steven, or Miami Steve) has a birthday. Late in his career, he plays Silvio Dante on the television drama “The Sopranos.”

1963 “With The Beatles,” the group’s sophomore album, is released in the U.K.

1963 “CBS Morning News with Mike Wallace” does a story on the rising popularity of The Beatles in England. There’s footage of The Beatles performing and their fans’ reaction. It’s the group’s first appearance on U.S. network television. The piece is slated to be repeated on the “CBS Evening News” but is dropped due to President Kennedy’s assassination. The segment does air on the “Evening News” on December 10^th.

1976 Ville Hermanni Valo, the lead vocalist for HIM, is born in Helsinki.

1983 Guitarist Corey Beaulieu (Trivium) is born in Dover-Foxccroft, ME.

1997 INXS lead singer Michael Hutchence hangs himself. Whether it’s an accident or suicide remains a mystery.

2003 Guitarist Dave Navarro (Red Hot Chili Peppers) weds actress Carmen Electra (Tara Patrick) in L.A. Shockingly, it doesn’t last.

2005 Former Creed frontman Scott Stapp unfurls his solo debut, “The Great Divide.” The album’s title track, and first single, is featured in a NASCAR ad campaign that airs during the Chase For The Nextel Cup auto-racing series.

2005 Green Day score at the American Music Awards in L.A. The trio nab the Favorite Artist: Alternative Music trophy, as well as the Favorite Album: Pop/Rock honor for their “American Idiot” album. The band doesn’t attend the festivities.

2008 The Vatican’s newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, ‘forgives’ John Lennon’s controversial ‘66 statement about The Beatles being “more popular than Christ” as a “youthful joke.” The article maintains that Lennon’s comment “after many years sounds only like a ‘boast’ by a young working-class Englishman faced with unexpected success.”

2009 Green Day win the Favorite Alternative Rock Artist honor at the American Music Awards. They also perform “21 Guns.”

2009 Slash and Ozzy Osbourne play a concert in Hollywood to raise funds for the Los Angeles Youth Network (they work with homeless young people). There are also performances from Travis Barker (Blink 182), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Chester Bennington (Linkin ParK), and Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction). “I just made some phone calls and said ‘it’s going to be great’,” says Slash. “There’s a way of doing it so that you convince them, but it’s such a good cause that they all wanted to be involved.”

2010 My Chemical Romance issue “Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys,” their first studio album in four years (since ‘06’s “Black Parade”).

2010 Vince Neil competes on ABC’s Skating With the Stars. The Mötley Crüe frontman skated competitively for two years in his pre-Crue days. “The first day I put on skates, I didn’t think I could do it,” says the 49-year-old Neil. “Within a half an hour, it was all coming back.”

2015 Pop singer Justin Bieber wears a Nirvana shirt to the American Music Awards. The wardrobe decision upsets some Nirvana fans who lash out via social media. But Courtney Love (the widow of Cobain) tweets “You’re cool in my book @justinbieber xc.”

2016 Bruce Springsteen is one of 21 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. President Barrack Obama officiates the White House ceremony.

2019 Billboard reports that Guns N’ Roses’ “Not In This Lifetime” tour has grossed $584.2 million from 5,371,891 tickets sold at 158 concerts across six continents. The GN’R tour featured the classic lineup of Slash, Duff McKagan, and singer Axl Rose. It’s the third highest-grossing tour in the history of Billboard Boxscore – behind Ed Sheeran’s Divide Tour ($775 million) and U2’s 360º ($736 million).

2021 Beatle Ringo Starr’s course covering drumming and creative collaboration launches on MasterClass, the online education platform.

2023 Former Penthouse model Sheila Kennedy filed a lawsuit in New York Supreme Court accusing Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose of sexually assaulting her during a New York party in Rose’s suite in 1989. The Adult Survivors Act waives the statute of limitations on sexual misconduct claims for civil suits.
