1970 John Lennon writes and records “Instant Karma (We All Shine On).”


1973 Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” is a pop chart-topper. 

Wonder initially offered the song to guitarist Jeff Beck but Beck failed to do anything with it so Wonder decided to record it himself.


2015 Papa Roach issues their eighth album, “F.E.A.R.”

“It’s everything we believe is great about Papa Roach,” claims frontman Jacoby Shaddix. The follow-up to ’12’s “The Connection” contains the lead single “Face Everything And Rise.”

1944 Nick Mason is born. The Pink Floyd drummer hails from Birmingham, England.

1956 Elvis Presly ‘s RCA Records debut, “Heartbreak Hotel,” is released.

1957 Iron Maiden guitarist, Janick Gers, has a birthday. He initially joined in ’90 to replace Adrian Smith, but remained in the band after Smith rejoined in ’99.

1968 Vocalist Mike Patton (Faith No More) is born in Eureka, CA.

1980 AC/DC play their last show with lead singer Bon Scott. It’s in Southampton, England.  Scott dies just weeks later.

1990 Eric Clapton’s “Bad Love” tops Billboard’s Mainstream Airplay chart.  

1997 Metallica wins the Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock trophy at the 24th annual American Music Awards.

2005 U2’s Bono joins British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Microsoft chairman Bill Gates at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland to address the issue of poverty in Africa. “(I) encourage people to do the right thing on the global stage,” says Bono.

2011 “I don’t think I’ve done anything good if it ends up with Green Day on Broadway,” John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) tells the L.A. Times. The former Sex Pistols frontman claims to have little interest in contemporary Punk bands adding that Green Day is a bunch of ‘cop-outs’. Green Day’s musical “American Idiot” is a Broadway hit.

2019 Rami Malek wins Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of the late Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” at the 25th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in L.A. The film’s cast is nominated for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture but lose to “Black Panther.” 

2022 Kid Rock shares a video message that includes an update regarding his upcoming Bad Reputation Tour assuring fans that none of the concerts will have vaccine mandates. “If there are any of these venues (with mandates) — I’m not aware of any, but if there are any — they’re gonna be gone by the time we get to your city,” Rock says in the video.
