1969 Chicago, then known as Chicago Transit Authority, release their self-titled debut.

The double album contains “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?,” “Beginnings,” South California Purples” and “I’m A Man.”  It stays on the Billboard Album Chart for 171-weeks and goes platinum.

1979 Cheap Trick play the first of two concerts at Budokan Hall in Tokyo. 

The performances make up the band’s breakthrough album “Live At Budokan” featuring “I Want You To Want Me.” The album goes multi-platinum.

2010 Metallica’s “Master Of Puppets” tops the list of The 50 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums Of All Time.

The ’86 album is followed by Iron Maiden’s “The Number Of The Beast” (#2) and Guns N’ Roses’ “Appetite For Destruction” (#3) on Musicradar.com’s survey,

2009 Halestorm issue their self-titled debut album featuring the single “I Get Off.” 

While issuing EPs prior to the release of their full-length effort, Halestorm logged a lot of road time. There was the ’06 Winterfresh Sno-Core Tour with Seether, Shinedown and Flyleaf. That was followed by the Equinox Tour headlined by Shinedown (again) and Trapt. The Shinedown connection led to a Lzzy Hale/Shinedown version “Shed Some Light.”

2025 Word Arrives That Soundgarden, White Stripes and Bad Company Will Be Inducted.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will also induct Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper and Outlast in November.

1953 Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) has a birthday.

1968 Scott Mitchell Putesky a.k.a. Daisy Berkowitz enters the world. His claim to fame is being a guitarist and co-founder of Marilyn Manson. He leaves the group in ’96, during the recording of “Antichrist Superstar.”

1973 Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of The Moon” tops the Billboard album chart for just one week. However, it stays on the chart for over 700 weeks.

1979 The Doobie Brother’s “Minute By Minute” returns to the top spot on the Billboard 200 after a one-week interruption by the Bee Gees (“Spirits Having Flown”). 

1979 “Heart Of Glass” (Blondie) is the #1 song on the U.S pop chart.

1980 Bob Seger drops “Against The Wind.” The song peaks at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and goes gold (500,000 units moved).

1987 Wait! The party is just starting. On the plane taking students home to Boston after spring break, Ozzy Osbourne buys drinks and sings “Crazy Train” over the plane’s PA system. It’s thought to be Ozzy’s all-time best performance.

1990 Axl Rose marries Don Everly’s daughter Erin. As a general rule, the daughters of Rock n’ Roll stars should not marry Rock stars. It’s the ultimate in dysfunctional. The marriage lasts a wonderful 27 days.

1999 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

2006 Something in the water? Just a day after Slash and his wife file for divorce, it’s Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx who gets served papers. One-time Baywatch babe Donna D’Errico, files for divorce to end their nine-year marriage, reportedly because of irreconcilable differences.

2008 Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) is sentenced to 192 hours in jail after pleading no contest to a DUI charge stemming from his arrest on an L.A. freeway on-ramp the previous November. Weiland, who had originally entered a not-guilty plea is also ordered to enter an 18-month alcohol-treatment program and pay $2,000 in fines.

2010 Bassist Gene Simmons tells Britain’s Daily Telegraph in an interview that KISS is among the world’s most recognizable brands. “You don’t know how big the image is,” says Simmons. “By some experts, it is believed to be the most recognized pop culture image on Earth — even above Mickey Mouse.”

2011 Fox News Channel anchor Glenn Beck blasts an episode of the Fox TV show Glee in which the cast performs My Chemical Romance’s anthem, “Sing.” “I’ve watched it with a sense of horror, combined with a sense of admiring awe,” says Beck of the musical comedy-drama. “Pay attention to the lyrics. This is propaganda.” A few days later, MCR’s frontman Gerard Way responds, dismissing Beck’s criticism. “I can’t tell what he’s angrier about, the fact that it’s how I feel about the persistent sterilization of our culture, or the fact that it’s on network television for everyone to hear.”

2014 Members of Queensryche and their former singer Geoff Tate announce they have reached a settlement in their dispute over the use of the band’s name. Original Queensryche members Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Michael Wilton plus recent members, Todd La Torre and Parker Lundgren, are the sole entity recording and touring as Queensryche. Tate wins the exclusive rights to perform “Operation Mindcrime I” and “II” in their entirety as a unique performance.

2015 Jack Ely, former singer of The Kingsmen (“Louie, Louie”), dies at the age of 71.

2017 Sony Music sues Applebee’s restaurant chain for the unauthorized use of AC/DC’s “Rock And Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution” in an advertising campaign. Applebee’s claim that they made the licensing payment to the third parties who set up the deal. 

2023 Mötley Crüe play a free concert at the end of Day Two of the NFL Draft in Kansas City, M0. During the band’s 40-minute set the Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders join the band for “Kickstart My Heart,” which is often played a Chiefs’ home games. 

2023 Former First Lady Michelle Obama sings backing vocals and plays tambourine alongside Bruce Springsteen during his performance of “Glory Days” in Barcelona, Spain.  The Obamas are in Spain with director Steven Spielberg to see the sites and attend the concert. 

2023 Guitarist/vocalist Tim Bachman (Bachman Turner Overdrive) dies at the age of 71.
