
Freddie Mercury’s personal collection will be auctioned over three days at Sotheby’s in September.
The Queen frontman’s collection comprises of approximately 1,500 lots spanning 30 collecting categories, including fine and decorative arts, stage costumes, handwritten lyrics, and Japanese art.
Items include Mercury’s handwritten working lyrics to “We Are The Champions” and Mercury’s crown and an accompanying cloak in fake fur, which were worn during his last tour with Queen in ’86.
The entire collection expected to sell for more than £6 million (US$7.44 million).
Six dedicated auctions will be led by a live evening sale on September 6th, where a representative cross-section of the most significant items will be offered. Two live auctions will follow on September 7th and 8th with three online auctions running concurrently..
A portion of the proceeds from the sales will go to HIV/AIDS charities: the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the Elton John Aids Foundation.
