Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters is being investigated by Berlin police for incitement to hatred after he donned a Nazi-style uniform (a long, black coat with a red armband) at a concert last week in the German capital.

“We are investigating on suspicion of incitement to public hatred because the clothing worn on stage could be used to glorify or justify Nazi rule, thereby disturbing the public peace,” said police spokesman Martin Halweg. “The clothing resembles the clothing of an SS officer.”

Waters wrote on Facebook that it was meant to be “a statement in opposition to fascism, injustice, and bigotry in all its forms.”

“Attempts to portray those elements as something else are disingenuous and politically motivated,” he wrote.

The Berlin stop was part of Waters’ “This Is Not A Drill” tour.
