Failed Arizona GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has once again made unauthorized use of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” in a tweet after the Arizona Supreme Court declined to hear most of Lake’s challenge of her 2022 defeat.
The lines quoted (misappropriated) were:
“Well, I won’t back down
No I won’t back down
You could stand me up at the gates of Hell
But I won’t back down.”
Petty’s estate slammed Lake last November and said it was “exploring all of our legal options” after she used the same song in a video. Lake was eventual served a “Cease and Desist” order.
