Lacuna Coil singer Cristina Scabbia said, in a recent interview, “I remember when I started, it would happen that I got a lot of looks just because a lot of people were surprised to see a woman on stage.”
Female Heavy Metal musicians are usually judged on their appearance and don’t garner the level of acceptance as their male counterparts.
“I got some people maybe screaming stupid stuff at the very beginning, but it didn’t discourage me because I think the problem is not mine,” added Scabbia. “The problem is in whoever just sees a woman that is in the wrong place for them.”
As for the critics… “I’m still here 20-plus years into my career,” concluded Scabbia,”and who knows where they are?”
