Kurt Cobain’s black Fender Stratocaster electric guitar (pictured above), smashed during Nirvana‘s “Nevermind” era was sold for $595,000 at Julien’s Auctions annual Music Icons (5/19-20) in New York City. The reassembled but unplayable guitar was signed by all three band members.

A Gretsch Irish Falcon electric guitar, stage-played by U2‘s Bono went for $238,125. The guitar, signed by all four U2 members, was donated by Bono when he was honored as the MusiCares Person Of The Year in ‘03.

And Eddie Van Halen’s Charvel EVH Art Series 78 electric guitar received a winning bid of $114,300. The 2004 red, black and white striped instrument was stage-played by Van Halen during the band’s ‘07/’08 tour.
