Slash was great. Axl Rose, not so much.
The rumor was the festival wanted Taylor Swift for Saturday night, but she was on her mega “Eras Tour.” The next option was Rihanna but she got pregnant.
So, the festival organizers booked Guns N’ Roses for Saturday night (6/24).
So how did that work?
Rose flipped off the audience and grabbed his crotch repeatedly – like in the ‘80s. But he still had a snarling delivery that remained “convincingly menacing.”
Slash, in a huge black top hat and sunglasses and red tartan shirt, was mesmerizing. Extended solos came in almost every song.
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl joined GN’R on stage to perform the closing song “Paradise City.” “There’s never such a things as too many guitars,” stated Rose as he introduced Grohl.
The Foos played an earlier set masquerading as The Churnups.
The BBC called the show “sporadically brilliant.”
For the record, Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher thought GN’R were a bad, unworthy, selection for the slot.
