Of Monsters And Men

In '09 singer Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdottir decided to expand (add musicians) her Indie Folk solo project, Songbird. The end result was Of Monsters And Men.

The relatively new group won the Musiktilraunir in '10, an annual battle of the bands competition in Iceland, then went on to take the '13 European Border Breakers Awards.

In between those honors, Of Monsters And Men released their "Into the Woods" EP and their full-length debut "My Head Is An Animal." Four songs on the album were taken from "Into The Woods."

The song, "Little Talks," which went to #1 in Iceland, earned U.S. radio airplay on Seattle public radio station KEXP and Philadelphia's Alternative Rock station WRFF. Other stations followed the two early adapters.

After nine months, "My Head Is An Animal," had sold over 600,000 copies and topped the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart (for a week) and peaked at #9 on the Billboard 200.

The band began working on a follow-up album in the summer of '13. But they didn't begin recording until over a year later.

Containing the lead single, "Crystals," "Beneath The Skin," arrived in '15.

Of Monsters And Men returned to the top of Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart with "Fever Dreams" on debut week sales 34,000 equivalent album units. The album also debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200.
