Amaranthe

How many Swedish Metal bands have three lead singers? Well, if there's more than one, the best known is Amaranthe, a band originally known as Avalanche, until they were forced to change their name, due to legal issues.

For the record the three original lead vocalist were: Elize Ryd (Pop Rock), Jake E (Hard Rock) and Andreas Solvestrom (Extreme Metal). Henrik Englund replaced Solvestrom in '13.

The Metal band usually places Ryd's female vocals in the verses and choruses with E and Englund providing the Hard Rock/Nu Metal breaks.

The band's self-titled debut album, an '11 release, peaked at #35 on the Swedish charts, Their next effort, "The Nexus" did far better. The '13 set went to #6 in Sweden and peaked at #12 on the U.S. Heatseekers chart.

Third album, "Massive Addictive," which nailed the top spot on the U.S. Heatseekers, dropped in '14.

But the following year, Englund announced that he would sitting out the band's North American tour as he prepared to become a father. Olle Ekman was named his temporary replacement.

The group's next album, "Maximalism," turned out to be Jake E's last album with the band. He announced he was taking a break but eventually decided to make his departure permanent. Nils Molin served as a touring vocalist before becoming full-fledged a band member.

With departing and returning vocalists (Jake E the former and Englund the latter) it would be easy to assume Amaranthe's days were number. Not so fast. According to guitarist Olof Morck, the group's' fifth album "Helix," an '18 release, was "a statement, a declaration and an assertion that we are here to stay."
